Getting Candler County Court Records
Clerk Jenny Grimes keeps the docket and files. She covers Candler Superior, State, Juvenile, and Magistrate records. Probate Court holds its own. Metter city cases go through the municipal route. Call 912-685-5257, stop by 35 SW Broad Street, Metter, or write P.O. Box 830, Metter, GA 30439. Hours run 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. A quick call before a trip is wise.
For online case lookup, Georgia Courts E-Access points you to PeachCourt, which requires an account. When a docket search comes up empty, the phone and counter still work. Before mailing a records request, ask about format, cost, delivery, and rules covering protected data. The county lists no Clerk email, web form, public terminal, or dropbox.
- Identify the court class and exact record.
- Give the case number, party names, approximate year, and document type.
- Choose inspection, a plain copy, or a certified copy.
- Confirm search, page, certification, vendor, mailing, and payment charges.
- Review redactions and ask about any withheld part.
The Board Form Is the Wrong Door
The county's Open Records page covers Board of Commissioners records only. It sends court-file requests to the Clerk of Court and Probate requests to Probate. A court filing routed through the Board form sits with the wrong office, so expect delays.
Route by custodian: Send Superior, State, Juvenile, and Magistrate questions to Jenny Grimes's office. Send wills, estates, guardianships, and other Probate files to Candler Probate Court at 912-685-2357.
Georgia's open-records process covers documents that already exist. Staff do not have to build a report or run an open-ended name search. Narrow your request by court, case, date range, and the specific document you want.
Candler County Court Record Types
A court file has layers. The docket is the running index; each pleading or order sits behind an entry. A calendar lists a planned setting. A listed hearing date is not proof it happened. Certification is the Clerk's authentication of a copy. Each layer can carry its own access rules and costs.
- Docket sheets and chronological entry lists
- Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, briefs, and affidavits
- Signed orders, judgments, decrees, and dispositions
- Filed exhibits and transcripts when accessible
- Calendars, notices, and setting records
- Plain, vendor, and clerk-certified copies
Georgia AOC dashboards sit in a separate category. They report aggregate counts and never open individual Candler case records.
Docket Line, Image, and Certification
A docket line can note that a motion or order was filed while showing none of its text. PeachCourt may display the filing as an image, gated by account access, availability, and vendor charges. A certified copy comes only from the official office. None of these stands in for the others.
| Layer | What It Does | Route |
|---|---|---|
| Docket line | Indexes a filing, event, date, or status | PeachCourt or Clerk |
| Document image | Shows an available pleading or order | Portal purchase or Clerk |
| Certified copy | Authenticates the official record | Clerk or eCertification |
PeachCourt itself calls its database a convenience copy, with official records staying with public custodians. Check with the receiving agency on which certification form it requires.
Inside a Candler County Court Record
Expect a case number in a court-year-sequence style, plus case style, filing dates, parties, counsel, pleadings, settings, rulings, and dispositions. A status line is only a summary. A charge or claim is an allegation, and only an order reflects action by the court.
| Case Number | Preserve letters, hyphens, zeros, and redirected criminal numbers. |
|---|---|
| Docket Sheet | Chronological filings, proceedings, settings, and status changes. |
| Pleadings | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, briefs, and affidavits. |
| Orders & Judgments | Signed rulings, decrees, judgments, sentences, or directives. |
| Exhibits & Transcripts | Filed evidence or hearing records when accessible. |
Ask the Clerk about unknown abbreviations. No Candler-specific public code glossary was found.
Four Candler eCertification Court Classes
The GSCCCA eCertification list marks Candler courts as available. It names Candler Juvenile, Magistrate, State, and Superior Courts. The listing does not spell out Candler's order steps, prices, or which documents qualify.
That service is not the GSCCCA search catalog. The catalog covers real estate, UCC, liens, plats, notaries, PT-61, and related filings. For ordinary pleadings and docket sheets, go to PeachCourt or the court office.
Note: Confirm the record, certification form, price, and delivery method with the Clerk. Do this before paying.
Fees and Certified Copies
Candler's official pages post no local fee schedule for plain copies, certification, search, or mailing. Get a current quote first. State rules let Magistrate provide copies on payment of costs, but no single local price covers every court.
| Item | Published Amount |
|---|---|
| Clerk plain copy | Not published; confirm |
| Clerk certified copy | Not published; confirm |
| Search, mailing, delivery | Not published; confirm |
| PeachCourt manual/criminal image | $2 eAccess plus $0.50/page, 3.5%, and $0.30 in vendor help |
The PeachCourt charge is a vendor example, not a Candler Clerk fee. Civil e-filers of record may view their own e-filed documents free under different terms.

Federal Records Go Through Statesboro
Federal cases never show up in PeachCourt, and the county Clerk cannot certify them. The Southern District of Georgia assigns Candler to its Statesboro Division. The Statesboro contact page lists the division office and the route for electronic-filing help.

When a PACER result is unclear, sort it by federal division. The county courthouse cannot fill that request. PACER's official entry explains account-based search and posts current fee information.

PACER can show division, caption, filing date, docket text, parties, counsel, documents, orders, hearings, and status. Federal bankruptcy is separate and uses Statesboro division code 6.
When the Clerk Needs a Narrower Request
A request for everything tied to a name can stretch across courts, years, and document types. Give the court, case number, rough filing year, record subject, and the exact item wanted. The office does not have to build a new index for you.
- Docket
- The chronological index, useful when the exact document is unknown.
- Pleading
- A filed party paper, such as a complaint, answer, petition, or motion.
- Order
- A signed court act, not merely a filed request.
- Inspection
- Review of an accessible record without necessarily ordering a copy.
No case number? Tell the clerk whether the Candler County matter is civil, criminal, traffic, juvenile, probate, or magistrate, and give a useful filing window. Say exactly what you want from the court docket. That could be the full docket sheet, one named pleading, the final order, or certification of a judgment. A focused description keeps similarly named parties straight. It also separates State files from Superior files. And it lets the office spot archived, paper, scanned, or electronically filed material before quoting a production time.
When the complete file looks large, ask whether you can inspect the responsive pages first. If the clerk flags exempt information, request the nonexempt portion plus the legal basis for any redaction. Never send confidential identifiers just to widen a docket search. The official contacts can tell you what identifying detail is safe and necessary for that class of court record.
Need bulk statistics instead of one case? Use Georgia AOC Data and Statistics. Its self-reported counts cannot find an individual case.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Georgia law keeps some court records closed. Sealed files, juvenile matters, adoption papers, and Social Security numbers stay protected. PeachCourt hides those, and an unexecuted proposed order will not appear either, so a missing image does not mean no filing exists.
Key rules:
Georgia Open Government FAQ explains the three-business-day response framework, cost notice, redaction, and withholding basis.
Uniform Magistrate Rule 6 covers copies and protected victim, witness, informant, and Social Security data.
O.C.G.A. ยง15-11-708 guidance describes juvenile-record limits.
If a file mixes open and protected data, ask the clerk for the nonexempt parts. An appeal later gets its own docket at the Georgia Court of Appeals.
